Hi! I’m Varshini Elangovan, a Master’s student in Machine Learning at Carnegie Mellon University. I’m interested in the areas of Multimodal AI, Reasoning & Interpretability in Vision-Language Models, Reinforcement Learning and Agentic AI.
Currently, I’m working on improving 3D Visual Question Answering and Spatial Reasoning with 2D VLMs, advised by Prof. Fernando de la Torre at the Human Sensing Lab, Robotics Institute, CMU. Previously, I was at Google Hyderabad for 3 years as a part of the Global Payments Platform Risk team, working on fraud mitigation for peer-to-peer payment transactions.
I’m seeking Summer 2026 internships in machine learning engineering and research-adjacent roles.
