Graduate Student @ Machine Learning Department, CMU
Hi! I’m Varshini Elangovan, a Master’s student in Machine Learning at Carnegie Mellon University. I’m interested in the areas of Multimodal Reasoning, AI Safety, Reliability & Interpretability in Vision-Language Models and Reinforcement Learning.
Currently, I’m a Graduate Student Researcher working with Prof. Virginia Smith and Aashiq Muhamed on AI safety interventions for LLMs. My research focuses on persona representations and behavioural drift under multi-turn conversations. I’m also working on efficient 3D Visual Question Answering with 2D VLMs at the Human Sensing Lab with Prof. Fernando de la Torre. Previously, I was at Google Hyderabad for 3 years as a part of the Global Payments Platform Risk team, working on fraud mitigation for peer-to-peer payment transactions.
